The Museum collects all sorts of objects associated with the Purbeck Ball Clay industry, and other industries in Purbeck. These include equipment, ephemera, archival material, and photographs. We also care for the locomotive Secundus, currently housed at the Swanage Railway Museum at Corfe Castle Station. We are always interested in personal stories of those who have worked in the industries and general information. Our policy on collecting is laid out in the museum’s Collections Development Policy (pdf). The objects which we collect must be directly related to the subject matter of the Museum, and have good Purbeck provenance and/or be directly of use in illustrating the subject in our displays. If you have something which you are interested in donating to the Museum collections, please click here to contact us.
