Join Us

The Museum is run entirely by volunteers. There are lots of different roles available, from helping with the Narrow Gauge Railway, to working with the collection, or helping with site maintenance.

RECRUITING NOW

Purbeck Mining Museum is seeking volunteer Visitor Assistants to help us provide a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors. Ideally, we’d like people to volunteer for a regular day from 10.30am to 4.30pm, any day of the week. If you’re only free for half a day, or can only offer occasional days, that’s fine too. In return, we’ll provide a great experience and a chance for you to use your skills and learn new ones. So, if you’ve plenty of enthusiasm, love interacting with people and have time to spare, get in touch to find out more.

Would you like to learn how to drive a Narrow Gauge engine?  Purbeck Mining Museum is seeking volunteers to join our Engineering Team to help us maintain and demonstrate our Narrow Gauge Railway (NGR). The NGR runs on Swanage Railway special event days and requires a dedicated team to keep it in good running order.  No previous experience is necessary – just enthusiasm for heritage railways and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
